Protein intelligence platform
how much protein have i eaten today?
How Much Protein is an approximation-first protein-tracking system for iPhone. It measures one macro, using addition, at no cost.

The problem
Your diet consists of two categories of food.
Known foods: items you eat regularly, whose protein content you already know or can read off the package. Eggs, tuna, cottage cheese, protein shakes, lentils.
Unknown foods: everything else. The protein in an unknown food can be estimated, but estimating it is work, and the work has no natural end.
The industry standard is to estimate everything anyway. Each meal is weighed, photographed and entered into an app, which calculates its macros, reports how many remain for the day and, in some cases, rates the food.
Logging a single meal under the industry standard:
- Prepare the meal.
- Do not eat the meal.
- Place each component on a kitchen scale and record its weight.
- Photograph the meal from above, in good light.
- Open the app. Search for each component. Choose between eleven entries called “chicken breast”.
- Adjust the portion size.
- Review the macros remaining for the day.
- Eat the meal.
This process repeats at every meal, every day, for as long as you continue eating.
Our technology
Addition.
How Much Protein runs on addition, a computational method in continuous use for several thousand years.
Each entry is processed in three stages.
01 / Input.
A number is entered.
02 / Processing.
The number is added to the previous total.
03 / Output.
The new total is displayed.
Most nutrition platforms combine dozens of data sources into a single estimate. How Much Protein combines one data source, you, with one operation. The result is a number you can check in your head.
Addition was developed independently by several civilisations and has never been patented. We have not applied. Processing takes place entirely on your iPhone. No entry is sent to a server for addition, because there is no server.
Addition is commutative. Eggs then tuna produces the same total as tuna then eggs. Your day can happen in any order.
The protocol
Three steps. One of them is eating.
01 / Eat something.
You may already be doing this. No preparation is required, and no part of the meal needs to be photographed, weighed or held up to the light.
02 / Tap its tile.
The foods you eat often are saved as tiles on the main screen, each with its protein per serving. Tapping a tile logs one serving and adds its protein to today’s total. For anything without a tile, Log food accepts a number.
03 / Continue your day.
There is no step 3. We include it so the protocol has three steps.
Advanced practice: Some practitioners skip step 02 for foods they don’t know the protein of. The total is lower than what they ate. This is supported.
Goals
A minimum. Not a limit.
You can set a daily minimum. You can also not set one. Both are full configurations of the product.
If you set a minimum, the app shades the box around your total in proportion to how much protein you’ve logged compared with the minimum. At the minimum, the box is full. Above it, the box stays full. Nothing turns red, nothing flashes, and nothing is unlocked.
The minimum is chosen on a ruler from 50 to 300 grams, in steps of 10. The app doesn’t recommend a number, ask for your weight or calculate anything about your body. You decide on a number. The app shades a box.
The shading is a pattern. A new pattern is generated each time you open the app. It carries no meaning.

Founder case study
Case 01 / E., co-founder
We did not ask users for testimonials. We do not know who our users are. The app has no account and makes no network connections, so we have no way to find out. This case study is about one of the people who made the app.
Subject: E., co-founder.
Protocol: How Much Protein, minimum set at approximately 100 g.
Method. E. divides food into the two categories described above: known foods and unknown foods. E. logs only known foods: cottage cheese, protein shakes, eggs, tuna and lentils. E. eats these predictably and knows their protein content. E. logs them until the total reaches the minimum.
Using the app’s preset values, one serving each of these five foods adds up to exactly 100 g: cottage cheese 24 g, protein shake 25 g, two eggs 13 g, one can of tuna 25 g, cooked lentils 13 g.
Everything else is not logged. This includes pizza. E. does not estimate the protein in pizza, look it up, or photograph it. The pizza is eaten.
Results.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Logged in the app | approx. 100 g |
| Actual intake | approx. 130 g |
| Unlogged protein | approx. 30 g |
| Classification of unlogged protein | Bonus |
| Pizza | Eaten, not logged |
| Stress about exact numbers | Not measured, because there wasn’t any |
Discussion. The number in the app is lower than the number in E. This is by design. Unknown foods are not a gap in the data. They are extra.
Outcome: minimum reached. Bonus achieved.

How Much Protein is made by Esther and Kiryll. The app and this website were built with AI. Several roles that are standard at health-tech companies are filled differently here, or not at all.
- Head of Arithmetic. Filled by your iPhone.
- Nutrition Database Lead. Position eliminated. The app doesn’t look up protein values. You enter them.
- Head of Growth. Position eliminated. We’d like you to forget about us.
- Retention Engineer. Position eliminated. The app doesn’t send notifications or reminders, and it doesn’t award streaks or badges.
- Chief Data Officer. Position eliminated. Your data stays on your phone. We don’t have any.
- Head of Sales. Position eliminated. There is nothing to sell. See: Membership.
- Customer Success Manager. The app has no customers. It has people who downloaded it.

FAQ
Questions.
Is How Much Protein clinically validated?
Addition has been validated by everyone who has ever used it.
Do I need to send you a blood sample?
No. Please don’t. We have nowhere to put it.
Does it work with my smart ring?
No. The app doesn’t read data from rings, watches, scales or any other device. It makes no network connections.
How accurate is it?
Exactly as accurate as the numbers you enter. The addition itself is exact.
What if I don’t know how much protein is in something?
Estimate it, or don’t log it. Both are supported. See: Case study.
Can I weigh my food?
You can. The app won’t ask. It has no weight mode. Each saved food is a serving with a protein value in whole grams.
Does it count calories?
No.
Will it tell me how much protein I need?
No. You can set a minimum if you have a number in mind. The app doesn’t suggest one.
What happens if I go over my minimum?
The box stays full. The minimum is not a limit.
What happens if I eat zero protein today?
The total shows 0 g. A zero looks like any other total.
What happens if I miss a day?
Nothing. Days without entries don’t appear in History.
Will it remind me to log?
No. The app doesn’t send notifications.
Is my data sold?
No. Your log stays on your phone. It leaves only if you export it as a CSV file yourself.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
Your log is stored in the app on your phone, so deleting the app deletes the log. Export a CSV first if you want to keep it.
How do you make money?
We don’t. There are no purchases, subscriptions or ads.
How do I cancel my membership?
There is nothing to cancel.
Was this built with AI?
Yes. The app and this website were built with AI, by Esther and Kiryll.
Can I log pizza?
Yes. Tap Log food and enter a number. Or eat the pizza.
